I stayed at Hotel on Rivington (highly recommended by the way - check out my flickr pictures of my room) on Wednesday night while in NYC on business. On Thursday morning I was connected to the iTunes libraries of a few other guests of the hotel and listening to a bunch of music I'd never heard before. I love this feature! However, I'd like Apple to look into how people use this, and take it a little further. Here's a few ideas I have for features I'd like to see:
  • Let me see a history of recently played tracks that I played from other people's libraries
  • Rather than the grey-arrow-take-me-to-the-iTunes-Music-Store button next to each track, give me a better signifier that the song I'm listening to is actually available from the store.
  • Let me say thank you to the person whose library I'm using! Whether it be a guestbook, or simply through a notification, allow me to show my gratitude
  • If I'm listening to music in someone else's library and this results in a sale at the iTunes Music Store, reward the person whose library inspired my purchase.
Anyway, I'm sure there are many other things Apple could do. I can't help but think that they should be nurturing the community of users who interact in this way, and give them ways to further interact.

I got this email today from Columbia House DVD Club. I've been a member for years, and I've had little to no complaints with their service. Recently, their promotions have been getting a little, well, thin. When you're giving discounts on something like DVDs, it seems like you'd have so much to offer your customers by way of incentive to buy more, right?

Check out the promotion they're running...
