I got this email today from Columbia House DVD Club. I’ve been a member for years, and I’ve had little to no complaints with their service. Recently, their promotions have been getting a little, well, thin. When you’re giving discounts on something like DVDs, it seems like you’d have so much to offer your customers by way of incentive to buy more, right?
Check out the promotion they’re running…

Dear Jeffrey,
Have we got a fantastic deal especially for you! Buy a DVD when you shop online anytime in May, and get a FREE DVD with your first June purchase. It’s as easy as that!
But remember: This exclusive offer is only good through May 31.
Sincerely,
Columbiahouse.com
You’d think they’d know better, and not try and pull a stunt like this. This is online retail, and it’s impulsive. I’d bet most people signed up for their service on an impulsive decision. If their market is impulsive buyers, we don’t care about what we can get later – give us something NOW. How’s that old saying go again?

Change “Sincerely,” to “Seriously!” and it goes from sad to funny!
