I’ve found a flaw in The Matrix

I won’t lie. I have no shame. I think the Matrix rules. I could watch those movies over and over again. They never ever get old for me. Anyway, I was in the shower yesterday morning and I realized that there’s a flaw in the Matrix.

Ok, here it goes. The Matrix is a mainframe which progammatically puts people into a virtual world. A virtual world, as in, nothing is real. The only “people” that exist in the Matrix who aren’t humans are the agents, but they’re computer programs. In the “real world”, all humans are encased in these holding tanks being fed enough to stay healthy and provide the energy that the machines need to live. That is, everyone who doesn’t live in Zion, but that’s besides my point.

However, here is my point. If what you look like in the Matrix is what you look like in the “real world” (minus the weird plugs), and no human in the Matrix has ever seen another human living in the “real world” to use for frame of reference for what to look like, and the humans in the “real world” exist only by being fed enough to provide energy to the machines…

How do you explain fat people in the Matrix?

So I’ve discovered that the people in the Matrix are a product of their own self-realization. They think, therefore they are…that’s why you can have fat people in the Matrix…at least that’s what a few friends and I came up with…

Right, but self-realization is something that comes with life experience. If the only “life experience” you have is fed directly to your brain, then your self-realization would be a product of the limited world that is presented to you. Unless fat people were part of the Matrix, people would never have a fat person as a reference point for them to realize that is who they ‘should’ be.

Actually, my understanding of that film was that the lives of the humans were largely “guided” by the computers who were trying to give them as real an experience as possible. In one of the later films there is a reference to a time when a previous version of the matrix failed because it was too perfect. This would explain why the matrix was not populated by Brad and Angelina.

If you’re assuming that the Matrix software guides people through their lives, on a micromanaged level, then the Matrix program could take someone’s genetic code and run with it.

So assume that someone’s genetically inclined to be fat, then if the matrix feeds them information about eating, their matrix avatar would also be fat.

That, and anyone stuffing themselves with a box of e-bonbons or eating at MatrixDonalds every day would also gain weight on their avatar.

I congratulate you on your nerdyness on the subject though, and will be pulling out the DVD box set again soon.
